Swamps and Carrs

slider-3slider-2Swamps are wetlands that are dominated by live or dead trees. Here the soil is very mucky and organic- losing a boot or shoe in swamps is common!

Carrs are wetlands that are dominated by shrubs- very similar to swamps but the woody plants are not as large. It is common to see willow or alder carrs.

You may be lucky to see a Spotted turtle in a swamp or carr, and a Blanding's or Painted turtle in a Carr.
