SUMMARY:Turtle Library Visits- Dysart et al
DESCRIPTION:Meet our teaching turtles and learn about these amazing animals. Grace and Sydney\, our Turtle Guardian staff\, will teach you how to help a snapping turtle across a road\, how to tell the difference between Ontario’s 8 species of turtles\, and all about turtle biology. These are live turtle events and outside at our local libraries to ensure social distancing is in place. Please bring your facemask and hand sanitzer too! See you there!

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to help our shelled friends. Turtles are the most interesting and mystifying animals – they navigate using earth magnetics and the sun\, know where they are going\, hibernate within 1 metre of the previous years\, live for hundreds of years\, are able to shed tears\, feel through their shells\, become male or female depending on temperatures\, and more…\nGrace and Sydney\, our Turtle Guardian staff\, will introduce you to Jeremiah\, Timothy\, Beakler\, Figgy and the gang. Watch the turtles being fed\, see Jeremiah taking tours around the office on her skateboard\, see the eggs in our incubator and maybe even watch them hatch!\n\n\nTurtles at Two will be livestreamed on Facebook each week. SUMMARY:Phrag Fighters - Survey and Removal Training
DESCRIPTION:Invasive Phragmites is a large grass-like plant that is taking over Ontario’s wetlands and reducing biodiversity. The plant colonizes ditches\, bays and wetland pockets. It grows in such thick mats that turtles\, frogs\, and other animals cannot move through their native habitats. The plant is also tall\, and blocks sight lines along roadsides. In the spring Phrag Fighters locate areas where the plant is growing and harming local habitats. Then\, as are part of a team of 3-4 people\, Phrag Fighter teams adopt one or two wetland areas where they are responsible for removing the invasive plant using best practices (so that the seeds don’t spread). Phrag Fighter teams go out between one and three times each summer between June and early August to spade the plants\, bag them in dark bags\, and transport them to locations or landfills to be deposited.   This workshop teaches Phrag Fighters how to identify the plants\, record locations of the plants in EDDMaps\, and then how to remove the plants using the best practices which help to stop the spread of the plant. Phrag Fighting is hard work but also fun and rewarding! Phrag Fighters is part of The Land Between’s Community Science Programs. \nAre you part of a Phrag Fighter team or looking to join one?  Join a phrag team here \nSign up for this workshop below: \n\n\n \n \n Phrag Fighters\n Phrag Fighter Volunteers \n \n Name*First and LastPhone*Email*\n \n Phrag Fighter Training Dates*Wednesday\, March 10th @ 7pm (surveying only)Thursday\, March 25th @ 7pm (surveying only)Thursday\, April 22nd @ 7pm (surveying only)Tuesday\, May 25th @ 6:30pm (both surveying and removal)Saturday\, May 29th @ 10am (both surveying and removal)Thursday\, June 3rd @ 6:30 pm (both surveying and removal)Saturday\, July 17th @ 1pm (both surveying and removal)

SUMMARY:Wetland Watcher Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Most turtles in Ontario live in wetland habitats. Wetlands are the most diverse ecosystems in the world. Over 70% of Ontario’s fish and wildlife depend on wetlands at some point in their life cycles. Wetlands are a treasure trove of so many amazing plants\, birds\, fish\, and animals. Over 70% of wetlands in the southern half of the province have been lost to development of one kind or another. Wetland Watchers are volunteer Turtle Guardians that monitor wetlands each week from late June to September and record wildlife observation to help biologists understand the significance of the habitat for wildlife in the area. Volunteers become Level 2 Turtle Guardians. This workshop teaches you how to identify key features and indicator plant species\, basic wetland birds\, frogs\, as well as turtle species and their behaviours. \nPlease register as a Wetland Watcher before attending: https://www.turtleguardians.com/wetland-watcher-registration/ \n\n \n \n Turtle Guardian Training Workshop\n Summer 2021 TG Activities \n \n Name*email*phone number*enter area code 705-000-0000Have you registered as a Citizen Science volunteer on our online form\, for your chosen activity yet?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n workshop chosen*RR: Thurs.
