Skill-building and Community Conservation

Do you love wildlife? Do you want to gain skills in wildlife research and conservation? Do you want to make a difference in your community?

We provide training, fun learning opportunities and support for you to become a future conservation leader.

 

  • Becoming a Turtle Guardian Youth Leader involves guided lessons and training over 8 sessions and up to 8 months.
  • Optional field components and volunteer opportunities.
  • Earn a certificate in conservation leadership. 
  • We come to you! This program is free for those that qualify.

This program is offered in Ontario's Highlands only in 2026. 

Target ages are 15-25. We have a focus on Indigenous Youth and disadvantaged youth. Contact us for more information.

Learning Outcomes- Students will develop skills in:

Scientific Knowledge

  • Turtle ecology and life history
  • Wetland ecosystem dynamics
  • Conservation biology principles
  • Population monitoring techniques

Scientific Skills

  • Wildlife identification
  • Habitat assessment
  • Ecological sampling methods
  • Data management
  • Basic ecological analysis

Leadership Skills

  • Leading younger participants
  • Communicating scientific information
  • Participating in conservation initiatives
  • Collaborative research

2026 Youth Leadership training is available from May to December.
