Timothy
Timmy is a Common Snapping Turtle. He weighs roughly 22 lbs! Based on size, and because he came from Ontario's Highlands, we can estimate his age- which according to measurements would be at least 80 years old.
Timothy came to the Turtle Guardians program from the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC) in 2018. Timothy was brought to the hospital with the injuries he sustained from being run over by a vehicle. As a result Tim cannot move his back legs and is missing part of his carapace.
He does not like skateboarding but prefers to stay hidden under his dock, or when out, to pretend he is a rock: Timmy is very shy. He only moves around if no one is looking (except we see him on our cameras). Timmy is strong-willed and does not let his injuries hold him back! He uses his front legs and tails to move and climb. He likes to explore in private.
Timothy undergoes regular physiotherapy at our facility. Timothy’s injuries have deemed him non-releasable, as he would not be able to successfully fend for himself in the wild, but Timothy makes an excellent member of the Turtle Guardians team and is an ambassador for his species!
Timmy is a gentle giant. He is a quiet soul, who enjoys his alone time.
