Toad Sam
Toad was surrendered to the BC Conservation Service of Environment Canada after being kept illegally as a pet. The conservation officers tried to find a home for him for almost a year before we had the room to adopt him. Without a home, Toad would have been euthanized because it is illegal to simply translocate a turtle; they are attached to their original homes and translocation can have major complications. We believe Toad and his cousin Blueberry, may have been taken to British Columbia from Central America, and the Common Snapping turtles from that area have larger barbels and different sizing of the scutes, similar to Toad's.
Toad is very curious, and loves exploring. He is an amazing climber and we have to keep our eyes on him at all times- or keep him secured in his tank.
