Willow Mkinnook
Willow came to us in fall of 2022 from southwestern Ontario, where she was surrendered to a wildlife rescue services as she was kept illegally as a pet for at least 15 years. During her years in captivity she did not have sufficient housing, as she has bumble foot; a condition where blood circulation is limited in the feet as water is too shallow and the turtle has to spend too much on their feet. This leaves semi permanent damage to the turtle's extremities.
Will is very shy- this could be a result of her early years. We are working hard to gain Willow’s trust, and she has come a long way since arriving! Willow likes to explore the office, and bask in the sun outside on warm days.
Since we don't know where she came from, Willow cannot be released into the wild. Turtles have a very low chance of survival after relocation because they are very connected to their territories.
