Dapper Snappers

Mr. Misunderstood

He has been here since the T-Rex, and yet populations are declining rapidly that they are headed towards extinction. A character that is shy and curious. Confused for his cousin, the alligators snapper, these Common Snappers cannot take off digits, yet are the best cleaning-crew for our lakes.

Population declines are surprising and devastating

Snappers were found in the same form 60M years ago...and turtles have been on the planet for 240M. They have survived five mass extinctions, but along with most of North America's turtles, they are now in jeopardy.

The best cleaning crew for lakes and waters, and the best gardeners for fish nurseries and wetlands. Snappers, and other turtles, are cornerstones of wetland and lake habitats and essential to the health of much of our wildlife.

They can live for up to 300 years....and maybe longer, but they take approx. 60 years to replace themselves in nature just once. Therefore they are vulnerable and populations are declining.
